Safety with Pressure Washers
Safety Information
Operational Safety
- Read and follow both Pressure Washer and Engine operator's manuals and all operating instructions before operating your pressure washer.
- Fuel and its vapors are flammable and explosive. Turn off engine and wait at least 2 minutes before refueling. Let spilled fuel evaporate before starting engine.
- Starter cord kickback (rapid retraction) can result in bodily injury. NEVER pull starter cord without first relieving spray gun pressure. Pull starter cord slowly until resistance is felt, then pull rapidly. Kickback will pull hand and arm toward engine faster than you can let go.
- Make sure the unit is on a stable surface and the cleaning area has adequate slopes and drainage to prevent puddles.
- Always keep the high-pressure hose connected to both the pump and the spray gun while the system is pressurized.
Usage Safety
- High pressure can cause spray gun to kickback. Hold spray gun with both hands during use. Engage trigger lock when not in use.
- Risk of electrocution. Contact with power source can cause electric shock or burn. Never spray near power source.
- Do not secure the spray gun in the open position.
- Never adjust the spray pattern or change a spray tip while spraying.
- Using a pressure washer from a ladder, scaffolding, or other unstable position is not recommended. A slip or fall could result from the recoil of the initial spray, or the pressure of the water striking a wall surface.
Personal Safety
- High pressure spray can cut through skin resulting in serious injury. Never spray people or animals.
- Outdoor use ONLY. DO NOT start or run engine indoors or in an enclosed area, even if windows and doors are open. Running engines give off carbon monoxide gas, which can kill you...
- Always wear safety goggles when using a pressure washer or when in the vicinity of the equipment in use. Spray can splash back or propel objects.
- Always point spray gun in safe direction and squeeze spray gun trigger, to release high pressure, every time you stop engine. Spray gun traps high water pressure, even when engine is stopped and water is disconnected.
- Contact with Muffler area can result in serious burns. DO NOT touch hot parts and AVOID hot exhaust gases.
- Never allow children to operate the pressure washer. Do not leave a pressure washer unattended while it is running.
- Do not wear open-toed shoes while pressure washing.
